Lululemon. What a store. The athletic apparel and accessories line has taken over the fitness market around the world. Each Lululemon item of clothing or accessory is not cheap though. When you invest a lot of money into something, it’s no wonder you want to be sure to take good care of it. But did you know washing clothes, especially in a washing machine, can be harsh on fabric? So what’s the best way to wash Lululemon clothes?
We’re outlining exactly how to wash your Lululemon clothes and all the other Lulu items you may own in order for them to last you as long as possible. Take a look!
How to Wash Lululemon Clothes – by category
What’s the first thing you do when you buy clothes from Lululemon? For me, it’s ripping the extra long tag right off. This makes it a little challenging when it comes time to remember the suggested care method for each Lululemon item. But don’t worry! Use this comprehensive guide when you need to know how to wash Lululemon clothes and accessories.
Leggings
Lululemon leggings are made with a variety of fabrics. When washing any sweat wicking fabric it’s important to remember to never use fabric softener as it can harm the fabric’s sweat wicking abilities. Also, the reason a lot of labels suggest to wash leggings inside out is because the inside of your leggings is where they get the dirtiest. The inside of your leggings is exposed to sweat and other body oils first, so it’s important to wash Lululemon clothes inside out to ensure they get clean.
How to wash Lululemon leggings:
– Machine wash cold
– Use a gentle, delicate cycle
– Wash inside out
– Never use fabric softener
– Lay flat to dry
– Was with other Lululemon items (or similar fabrics) for best results
– Avoid washing with irritants like zippers or velcro
Tanks/Tops
Out of all of the Lululemon clothes, the care instructions for tanks and other tops seem to be consistent. If your top is a bright or tie dyed color, it’s best to be sure you turn it inside out and wash it separately. These bolder, brighter colors can sometimes bleed into other fabrics.
How to wash Lululemon tops:
– Machine wash cold
– Wash with like colors
– The care instructions do say you can tumble dry low but as with their other products if you have the time, lay it flat to dry
– Do not iron, bleach or dry clean
Sports Bra
Lululemon sports bras come in a variety of support and styles. If your Lululemon sports bra has cups in it, the brand suggests taking them out before washing. By taking the cups out, you help the sports bra keep its shape. When you take out the cups, wash them by hand and lay flat to dry.
Does your Lululemon bra have a zipper? It’s probably best to either wash it by hand, wash it separately from other Lulu or place it in a delicate bag. By doing so, you’re ensuring you aren’t damaging your other clothes with the sports bra zipper. As for the rest of the instructions it’s pretty generic.
How to wash Lululemon sports bras:
– Machine wash cold gentle cycle
– Do not dry. Lay flat or line dry. A few sports bras say tumble dry low is acceptable but if you have multiple, it’s too hard to keep track without a label, so it’s safest to not dry any of them.
Underwear
For the most part, Lululemon’s underwear has similar instructions to other underwear out there.
How to wash Lululemon underwear:
– Machine wash cold with like colors
– Tumble dry low
– Do not bleach, iron or dry clean
How to Wash Everything Else Lululemon
Mask
In 2020, Lululemon released face masks, designed for those on the move. With two different styles available, the sweat wicking fabric is a helpful touch, especially in summer months.
How to wash Lululemon face masks:
– Machine wash cold with like colors
– The care instructions do say you can tumble dry low but as with their other products if you have the time, lay it flat to dry
– Do not iron, dry clean or bleach
Yoga Mat
The preferred, natural cleaning solution for a yoga mat is 1 teaspoon of baking soda, 8 ounces of water and some juice from a freshly squeezed lemon for a nice, clean scent. Clean the mat with the mixture and then wipe it off with a clean cloth. Vinegar and water can work as well with the same ratio of 1 teaspoon of vinegar and 8 ounces of water..
Ideally, you should clean your yoga mat before and after every session to avoid any bacteria or mold buildup. Lay it out to dry but be sure you do not lay it out in direct sunlight as you risk color fading or harm to your mat from UV rays.
Summary
Basically, if you really want to be sure your Lululemon holds up, follow these rules on how to wash your Lululemon clothes:
- Machine wash cold with like colors on a gentle, delicate cycle
- Wash items inside out
- Use the right amount of detergent (not extra)
- Add an extra rinse cycle if available
- Never use fabric softener
- Never put items in the dryer. Lay them flat to dry
- Avoid washing with any items that have zippers or velcro (including bras)
- Do not bleach, iron or dry clean any Lululemon item
Did you know?
Some of us are not the same size in every style of a tank or leggings from Lululemon. So when you rip the tag out of the clothing item can be a problem later. But did you know that Lululemon keeps track of your sizing in their system? That means if you purchased a pair of align leggings three summers ago, Lululemon should be able to tell you what size you purchased those leggings in previously! Just a fun, helpful fact in case you did not know.

How do remove wrinkles from my ABC pants when they out of the wash?
Great question! Do not iron them. The only safe option to get wrinkles out of ABC pants is to use a steamer. You can get a decent portable steamer on Amazon for less than $30. Here is the one I personally use: https://amzn.to/3Fpybfg.
